Washing your pillow is only part of the solution- you can extend the life and we recommend it, but it does not deal with all of the issues inside a pillow.
How often you wash is up to the individual, but used in normal circumstances, we suggest the pillowcase be washed weekly and the pillow be washed monthly. Make sure you check the care labels before washing.
Wash it
Your pillow comes with care instructions on its label and you should follow these. However, most pillows can be put in the washing machine. Tontine recommends you set your washing machine on the ‘delicate' or ‘gentle' wash cycle. Use a gentle liquid soap to keep it looking fresh and white.
Dry it
You should follow the care instructions for different fill types. Tontine doesn't recommend putting your pillow in the dryer. How long you dry it depends on the fibre it is filled with. Dry flat and thoroughly before reuse or storage. Do not iron. We also recommend pulling into shape whilst wet.
Cover it
Using a pillow protector can help minimize exposure to dust and dirt. Then cover the pillow with a clean pillowcase. These protect against sweat and dust as well. Make sure you wash the pillowcase and other bed linen weekly.
Protect it
Keep pets off your pillows. Many people can suffer from allergic reactions to the dander from dogs and cats - the dead skin cells shed by animals. Other people react to animal hair and saliva. If you like sleeping with your pet on your bed, keep the pet at the end of the bed!
Replace it
Don't keep a pillow for years! Tontine recommends the lifespan of a synthetic filled pillow to be approximately two years. By purchasing a Tontine Fresh Pillow, it will feature a stamp with an expiry to ensure you know when your pillow is fresh and when it's not fresh anymore.
