Selecting your perfect pillow

Pillow choice is very personal. Some people like a soft pillow that moulds to their body and other people want a firm pillow to support their head and neck.

Pillows vary in softness and loftiness or height. You need a pillow that sits in the crevice between your head and shoulder, without raising or lowering your head. Your sleeping posture should be the same as your correct standing posture. An incorrect pillow can result in poor posture, neck pain and headaches. You should select a pillow based on your body size, favoured sleeping position and your personal preference. Medical conditions such as allergies, asthma and back pain should also be taken into account.

Fill Types
It's what's inside your pillow that counts and Tontine has a range of different fill types for every preference.

Synthetic Fibre Fill
Polyester is the most commonly used synthetic fibre fill. Tontine's polyester-fill pillows are machine washable, have and anti-bacterial treatment and are available in a variety of fill-weights.

Foam and Latex Fill
Foam pillows come in a variety of types and qualtities and they usually last longer than other types of fill. Foam is best for people who like extra support. The Tontine Luxe Isolon pillow contains memory foam. This new foam reduces pressure points by continously moulidng and adjusting to the shape and temperature of your body. Wool Fibre Fill
An organic alternative to synthetic fill, wool pillows can become quite flat if they are not blended with polyester. Wool is flame resistant and as a natural fibre it offers excellent moisture absorbency, allowing the pillow fill to breathe and offering a more comfortable nights sleep.

Feather and Down Fill
Feather and Down pillows are softer and loftier than other pillows. Made from duck or goose feathers, the higher the down content, the softer the pillow will be.

How often should pillows be replaced?
Pillows should be replaced when they no longer provide adequate support for your head and neck. The life span of synthetic-fill pillows is six-months to two years. Foam and Latex pillows last from 5 to 10 years. Tontine recommends the use of pillow protectors to increase the lifespan of your pillow.
